'Pretty Little Liars' Spoilers: Aria Goes On 'Incredible Journey' In Season 5; Will She Be Revealed As 'A'?

Season 5 of “Pretty Little Liars” will be a serious departure from the first four seasons of the series. Fans have heard how Ali’s return to Rosewood will “change everything” for the characters in the picturesque town, but it seems like one character in particular will be experiencing a departure from her standard storyline. “Pretty Little Liars” director, Joshua Butler, teased that Aria will be going through major changes. While filming, the director took to Twitter and revealed that Aria, who is played by actress, turned country singer Lucy Hale, will be going on an “incredible journey.” Butler posted a photo of Lucy on camera as Aria on the phone, he captioned the behind the scenes snap, “Day 3 directing #PLL 5x07: You'll be dazzled by @LucyHale's incredible journey as Aria this season. #DirectorPride.”

Aria, who has been a main part of the series as one of the four “Pretty Little Liars,” got the shock of her life at the end of Season 4. The teen discovered that her English teacher turned boyfriend was, in fact, using her to get to her friend Alison, who has been presumed dead. Ezra and Aria first met in Rosewood, and unknowingly started a relationship only to discover that he was her high school teacher. Despite having a few bumps, the relationship between the pair was for the most part solid, until Aria discovered that he first sought her out because he knew she was once a friend with Alison. Now that Aria knows the truth about Ezra, and Alison is back in their hometown, it seems like she will be undergoing a transition of her own.

Season 5 will be a serious turning point for her, despite “Pretty Little Liars” pushing the rekindled romance between Ezra and Aria, fans seem to be split. Of course there are the “Ezria” loyalists, but then there are fans that simply can’t forgive his lies and deception. Fans should expect Aria to grow more independent of both Ezra and her friends. Throughout the series, she has bounced from one romantic interest to the other, always finding her way back to Ezra. Season 5 may be the first time Aria discovers what she wants in her life, and also for the future.

Despite the “A” antics, she is still a high school senior who must decide on a college, major and of course life plan. Despite this positive take on things, Aria’s journey may have more sinister roots. Fans have begun to suspect that Aria may in fact be “A,” and after Ezra’s reveal as an aspiring true crime novelist, fans theories were only strengthened that Aria may have a dual identity. Could it be possible that Aria’s “incredible journey” will lead to her exposure as “A”? Even though some fans would be absolutely devastated, ‘Pretty little Liars” seems to enjoy shocking fans with secret character identities!
