CM Punk is officially back to wrestle but it appears there is more to come. After emerging at All-Elite Wrestling (AEW) last Friday, Aug. 20, the 42-year-old announced his return when he appeared on “AEW Rampage.”
It was an electric and emotional moment for the former WWE champion who did not waste time picking his first opponent. It was no other than Darby Allin, challenging him to a match at “AEW: All-In.”
The said pay-per-view is set for Sept. 5 and wrestling fans cannot wait to see Punk back in action.
However, he may not be the only former WWE star making the jump to AEW.
Punk was on hand once more at the Wednesday (Aug. 25) edition of AEW and spoke about his upcoming showdown with Allin. But aside from that, he may have teased the coming of another ex-WWE champion which most speculate is Daniel Bryan.
It all started when Punk said he had to answer the question: "Can you still be the best in the world?"
The crowd responded with "Yes! Yes! Yes!" chants after which Punk said that it was someone else’s shtick and that they may have to wait.
However, the man also known as Phil Brooks, took it up a notch when he posted an Instagram when he posted a photo of him and Bryan shaking hands before a 2004 match at Ring of Honor.
Now, most are anticipating Bryan to follow Punk. The “Yes Man” was last seen in the WWE in March where he battled Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal title. A stipulation in that match was if the 40-year-old lost, he would have to leave the brand.
Little updates have come out about Bryan since then. However, Bryan confirmed in April that his contract would be ending in September and that he was trying to figure out the right balance in his life.
"We need to figure out what a good balance between home life and wrestling. I never want to stop wrestling, I love it, it’s just figuring that out,” Bryan said on Fightful.
Also, Bryan added that he would be interested in wrestling for different companies and the WWE, something he is trying to weasel himself into.
Could Bryan be making an appearance at CM Punk’s AEW debut on Sept. 5? If his contract is up and not renewed, that could be a big possibility.
