Ammonia Leak In Mexico Pemex Pipeline Kills 7 In Oaxaca

Pemex, Mexico’s state oil company, confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that seven victims of an ammonia leak at the Antonio Dovalí Jaime refinery in the state of Oaxaca have now died. At least three others are still being treated for injuries suffered when a leaky pipeline caused an explosion, and some forty others suffered from inhaling the ammonia.

Mexico Earthquake 2013: 6.1 Magnitude Quake Shakes Mexico City

Mexico’s capital was hit by an earthquake of considerable force on Wednesday morning, registering at 6.1 on the Richter scale, according to the US Geological Survey. The quake was centered on the Pacific coast state of Guerrero, near the resort of Acapulco. As of yet there are no reports of injuries or damages.

Asylum Requests Along US, Mexico Border Double; Why Is It So Hard For Mexicans To Gain Asylum?

Despite drug violence that has overwhelmed numerous states in Mexico, especially in those near the border with the United States, Mexicans seeking asylum based on a claim of fear of persecution back home are unlikely to be awarded it. Even as asylum requests along the US-Mexico border have more than doubled, the Department of Homeland Security says there hasn’t been a marked increase in applications from Mexican citizens.
