Fans rejoice! There might be a new “Rocky” movie scheduled for the near future, as shared by Sylvester Stallone himself.
Stallone, the man behind the infamous character created 40 years ago, told Variety that a new "Rocky" movie is possible down the road. Asked what it is going to be about, the man who personified Rocky the underdog boxer, has the prospective plot down pat.
According to the actor, the possible premise of the new “Rocky” movie will touch on one very timely topic in the United States — immigration.
“Rocky meets a young, angry person who got stuck in this country when he comes to see his sister. He takes him into his life, and unbelievable adventures begin, and they wind up south of the border. It’s very, very timely.” he shared.
He added that the movie will ask some hard questions for the viewers to ponder. Essentially, the audience will wonder about this, “Do you tell someone that you just met in the street who’s struggling and homeless to get out, or do you take him in?” Stallone shared. He added that this prospect of a project could happen very, very soon.
Despite his still apparent enthusiasm for “Rocky,” he made clear in this interview that he has some contentions against the franchise. He shared that he was deprived of an equity stake in the franchise, which meant he could not have an annuity of sorts that he could provide his children after he dies.
“It was shocking that it never came to be, but I was told, ‘Hey, you got paid, so what are you complaining about?’ I was furious,” he shared.
Stallone, however, claimed that this was partly his fault too because he did not push hard enough when negotiating his deal for the movie franchise. He regretted this but claimed that he did not want to “ruffle the feathers of the golden goose.”
Considering how well the franchise did, garnering 10 Oscar nominations and wins for different categories — Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Film Editing -- the regret might be very palpable for the actor indeed.
Meanwhile, the actor will be returning as Rambo later this year. This is another character that he brought into life so well. In the upcoming movie, “Rambo: Last Blood,” his character is said to be a bit damaged.
The director of the movie, Adrian Grunberg, spoke with Total Film and shared that this version of Rambo is one who is dealing with PTSD from the years of service he rendered to his country. While dealing with this debilitating condition, he would be saving a young girl captured by the Mexican cartel.
