A Brazilian man was arrested after he was caught on camera seemingly calmly grabbing a shovel off a store wall before walking over and whacking his wife's boss, the store's manager.
In video of the attack obtained by the Southland Post, the man can be seen walking over to a wall of the supermarket and taking a shovel from its hanger. After giving it a couple of small swings, the man leaves that section and heads over toward the registers.
A store manager can be seen talking on the phone as the man approaches. The man with the shovel gives a glance toward the customers and cashiers in line, before taking the shovel, swinging it and slamming it against the head of the manager, causing him to drop his phone and fall over.
While one employee can be seen trying to verbally confront the man, another employee comes up behind the man and tackles him.
The man allegedly behind the attack was identified as 29-year-old Danielson Paiva. He is being held in jail on a charge of attempted murder, as reported by Brazilian outlet G1.
Claudio dos Santos, the 40-year-old manager, said that Paiva's wife works at the store, and may have told him that he had "morally harassed her," which he denied.
"I never expected something like this to happen. I only left the hospital at the end of Sunday. [The attacker] really wanted to kill me and what saved me was my cell phone, which shattered inside my ear and I had to get stitches. But it was the cell phone that protected me from the blow," he told G1.
Santos reportedly sustained head and ear injuries, including some hearing loss. The case currently remains under investigation, both by police and the store.
