On Sunday NBC confirmed that SNL star Seth Myers will replace Jimmy Fallon as host of "Late Night" next year when Fallon replaces Jay Leno on the "Tonight Show."
It has been widely rumored that Seth Myers would be the ideal candidate to replace Jimmy Fallon. He has been a cast member on "Saturday Night Live" for 12-years as well as one of the show's head writers for the last 8-years.
NBC Entertainment Chairman, Bob Greenblatt issued a statement on Sunday saying, "We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation. His years at SNL's "Weekend Update" desk, not to mention being head writer of the show for many seasons, helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the late night franchise.
Seth Myers is replacing Jimmy Fallon another SNL alum. Also coming over from the SNL family is "Saturday Night Live" creator and producer Loren Michaels. In addition to his responsibilities with SNL Michaels will also executive produce "Late Night" with Seth Myers.
According to ABC News, Seth Myers is excited about his new hosting gig and understands he has a big responsibility as host.
"12:30 on NBC has long been incredible real estate. I hope I can do it justice," Myers said.
With Myers and Fallon hosting NBC's late night shows the company is hoping to draw a younger audience to the time slot.
