60-Year-Old Kentucky Woman Charged With Arson For Allegedly Setting Brush Fire Near LA Wildfires

A Kentucky woman was arrested on suspicion of arson amid the wildfires in Los Angeles that have destroyed 35,000 homes and businesses.

Gloria Lynn Mandich, 60, was charged with felony arson related to a January 8 brush fire in Los Angeles County. She allegedly started a new blaze near Leo Carrillo State Park outside of the city's multiple wildfires, announced California State Parks.

Mandich allegedly started the fire in an area that's currently under a red flag warning due to the multiple wildfires around it, which are being fanned by severe Santa Ana winds and dry plants, reported AccuWeather.

Mandich's fire was extinguished by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

She was booked into Ventura County Jail and her bail is set at $20,000.

Mandich made her first court appearance on January 10, and has two upcoming appearances set for January 22 and 24.

Mandich isn't the only arsonist law enforcement apprehended.

On January 10, Jose Carranza-Escobar was arrested for starting a fire at Pioneer Park.

Aside from arsonists, law enforcement is also on the lookout for looters. At least 20 individuals have been arrested for looting homes that were left emptied by evacuation orders.

Over 80,000 people from neighborhoods like Pacific Palisades and Eaton have been displaced by the wildfires in Los Angeles.
