Former Disney Channel star Nick Jonas and wife Priyanka Chopra excitedly took to Instagram to share the thrilling news that they welcomed a baby via successful surrogacy after years of trying. The announcement came months after the couple shut down divorce rumors.
“We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate,” Chopra, 39, shared on her Instagram account.
“We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family. Thank you so much,” she added, captioning the post with a heart and tagging her husband Nick.
The powerful duo stopped short at sharing the toddler's gender and name, but sources claim they welcomed a baby girl on Saturday in Southern California. The baby news would also mean that Nick is now part of the dad club with older brothers Kevin, 34, and Joe, 32, People Magazine noted.
The trio were formerly members of the three-piece pop boy band, the Jonas Brothers.
As for Chopra, the Indian actress previously got candid about her desire to start a family with Nick, who she married in two ceremonies in Jodhpur, India, in December 2018, months after they got engaged in July, dating since May of the same year.
“They’re [kids] a big part of our desire for the future,” Chopra said per Elle. “By God’s grace, when it happens, it happens.”
Accordingly, Jonas, 29, echoed her sentiments in a February interview, “She is the most important piece of the puzzle, and it's obviously something we hope happens [starting a family], and God willing, it comes together,” he said.
The couple’s romance began when Nick asked Priyanka out on Twitter. Years after tying the knot, the duo has since witnessed the ugly sides of social media, according to HuffPost.
In a recent incident, rumors that they have separated and are processing their divorce made rounds worldwide after Chopra opted to drop Nick’s last name, at least on social media, a move that screams of the pressure she felt being the other half in a high-profile couple.
What was supposed to be a simple switch from @PriyankaChopraJonas to just @PriyankaChopra would eventually force her to subtly clear the air, leaving a steamy comment on her husband’s IG post that reads, “Damn! I just died in your arms…”
While she successfully nipped things in the bud within twelve hours, Chopra revealed that she is bothered that she had to do that in the first place, voicing her frustration that even her slightest moves to improve her wellbeing can cause divorce rumors.
“Because of the noise of social media, because of the prevalence that it has in our lives, I think it seems a lot larger than it is,” she continued. “I think that we give it a lot more credence in real life, and I don’t think it needs that.”
