A 16-year-old boy and his 22-year-old girlfriend allegedly killed themselves by going under a speeding train after leaving behind a suicide note, stating they were taking the extreme step as no one would let them live together.
The mutilated body of Swaroop Singh and his girlfriend, Radha Kumari were found on the railway tracks near the Mokalsar railway bridge in the Siwana area of Barmer district in the Indian state of Rajasthan on Monday, July 18.
Police said they were alerted Monday morning by a train driver who spotted the bodies on the railway tracks.
The bodies were recovered and transported to a medical examiner’s office for an autopsy, according to reports.
The police registered a case of unnatural death and were investigating the scene of death, when they came across a note, purportedly written by the victims.
Police said the suicide note did not carry any name and address.
"The note says that they (the couple) did not want to disturb or defame anyone. They have written that no one should be told anything. They have written that they took this decision as they cannot live without each other and nobody would allow them to live together," a police official told the Times of India.
A handwriting expert will examine the suicide note to determine if it was actually written by the victims.
A further probe is underway.
A similar incident was reported in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, where a 19-year-old shepherd and his 16-year-old girlfriend allegedly killed themselves by going under a speeding train after the former was married to another girl, despite his objection, authorities said.
The teen couple was found dead on the railway tracks close to Malliyala Railway Station in Kurnool on Wednesday, June 29.
The gruesome discovery was made by a railway keyman, who was doing his routine checks on the tracks, reports said.
A preliminary investigation by the GRP (Government Railway Police) revealed that the teens were in a relationship and wanted to get married but the boy was allegedly forcibly married to his relative recently.
It is unclear if any suicide note was recovered from the scene of the tragedy.
