As they continue to fight their way up the 2013-2014 Barclays Premier League table, Manchester United also has its sights set on making a strong run throughout the current UEFA Champions League season. With multiple high profile matches remaining on their schedule, the Red Devils hope that any momentum gained across various leagues will help propel them to significant standings in each. Holding onto the eighth position in the BPL at the present time, Manchester United will now shift their focus to another First Phase showdown in the Champions League with Group A opponent Real Sociedad, a team they recently defeated.

Looking to maintain the top spot in Group A, the Red Devils played host to La Real on October 23 at Old Trafford. In a true defensive contest, the only goal of the game came in the second minute when Real's Iñigo Martínez recorded an own-goal, allowing Manchester United to take the only tally registered for the remaining 90-plus minutes. With the victory, Man U was able to maintain their stay atop Group A with a total of 7 points through 3 matches (2-1-0). Bayer Leverkusen is one point behind the Red Devils with Shakhtar Donetsk (4 points) and struggling Real Sociedad (0 points, 0-0-3) closing out the four-team pool.

Following the Champions League match against La Real, Man U will host Arsenal - the current first place team in the Barclays Premier League - before traveling to Cardiff City (BPL) and Bayer Leverkusen (UCL). The match against the Arsenal Gunners will surely be an indication of how good Manchester United truly is just a year removed from a Premier League title.

Real Sociedad on the other hand will return to the Spanish La Liga for matches against Real Madrid and Celta Vigo before re-entering the First Phase of the Champions League at Donbass Arena to take on Shakhtar Donetsk.
