All signs point to 2016 being Jaime Camil’s best year in television yet! The Mexican actor, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance as Rogelio de la Vega on “Jane the Virgin” at the 2016 Critics' Choice Awards, will be the face of “The Passions of Santos,” a digital spin-off of the acclaimed CW show. You read that right; the fictional telenovela is now a real novela!
According to a report by Remezcla, the passionate president of North Ecuaduras and his lavender military uniform will continue to enamor his fans in a digital fan fiction-style backstory that is being released chapter-by-chapter on the writing platform Wattpad in both English and Spanish.
“We thought Wattpad was the perfect fit for ‘Jane The Virgin,’” explains Caty Burgess, Senior VP Media Strategies at The CW. “Jane the character is an aspiring writer and Wattpad is a great platform for people who want to share their writing with the world. We’re excited to go beyond a 30-second TV ad and figure out ways to engage our fans and potential fans and reward them with extra content.”
Even though we won’t get to see Camil as Santos on the small screen. We can still picture him and his love Blanca, the daughter of a poor farmer, taking on the high seas, fighting evil pirates, and reuniting with long-lost relatives in a story that promises murder, chaos, betrayal and blood…but mostly, passion.
