A father, obsessed with fitness, who forced his daughter to sign a "never get fat" contract and destroyed the lives of his children by running a dictatorial regime has been sentenced to spend 30 months in prison.
Reading Crown Court sentenced, 56-year-old Rachid Khadla, from Windsor, Berkshire, England, for violently attacking and manipulating his children for years.
The father of three was found guilty of assault and cruelty to his children, Karim, Amira, and Hitcham,
The siblings, now all adults, revealed how they were tormented and tortured by their father for years.
During the sentencing, Judge Kirsty Real described Khadla as "a bully.”
As a result of the abuse, Khadla’s daughter, Amira, developed an eating disorder which her father strongly disliked.
"I was made to feel stupid and worthless; I lost my self-confidence and developed an eating disorder. Every bit of my life was affected growing up, we did not have a normal life or a happy childhood," Amira said, The Metro reported.
According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), Khadla had a great obsession with fitness and dieting.
The man forced his daughter to sign a contract that said, "I will never let myself get fat…I will do lots of exercise to make sure I will never get fat…even if I die," the CPS added.
During the hearing, prosecutor Alex Krikler told the court that during one such instance of abuse, Khadla threw a chair at Amira, which caused a keloid on her ear and left her needing "numerous operations and treatments."Amira was only 9-years-old when the alleged incident happened.
Khadla’s elder son Karim who had developed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) following the abuse, narrated his ordeal to the court.
"My first memory was aged five years old, I had a habit of throwing away my lunch at school, as I grew older I realize it was a cry for help," Karim told the court.
"I remember my father repeatedly hitting me. He was six foot weighing 16 stone, I was just a small child."
"My most severe beating was my last, he punched me into the side of my head knocking me unconscious. Now I get intimidated when someone shows anger towards me as if I have PTSD," Karim recalled.
"At school, I had no friends, I was severely bullied daily, they viewed me as a weirdo. But being bullied was almost enjoyable compared with what I was experiencing at home. I was coercively controlled for the first 18 years of my life."
"As a father myself, I do not understand how someone can gain pleasure from dictating his family’s life," Karim added.
Khadla was also accused of controlling other aspects of his children’s lives, including their access to the internet, cell phones, and house keys.
The abuse came to light only when Karim told the police in 2019 about his father’s abuse. He told police how his father strangled him and punched him during an attack.
Passing the sentence, Judge Real said that Khadla had "effectively ruined" the childhoods of his children through "multiple incidents of cruelty over many years."
"You were a bully, and you have been unwilling to accept or acknowledge that," she said.
