“Fear The Walking Dead” Season 5 went back on air last week after a short midseason break of 3 weeks, which is the shortest ever seen from both “Walking Dead” series to date. The “Fear” series returned with episode 9, titled “Channel 4.”

The fifth season of FTWD features numerous messages that Morgan’s group of survivors have come by. It has become an overlying question as to who could be behind the ambiguous messages of positivity.

Sherry

Sherry, Dwight’s wife, is one of the main prospects behind the numerous scattered messages carved on trees. After he was forced out of Alexandria, Dwight decided to search for his wife, which eventually led him to the same roads where Morgan is on as he follows a trail of letters that Sherry left behind.

But in one of her letters, Sherry decided to stop leaving messages for Dwight and wanted him to stop chasing her down. It is highly probable that despite this “final” note, Sherry changed her mind and left messages on trees instead. The message “If you’re reading this, it means you’re still here” carved on one of the trees could be for anyone, but it could also be Sherry’s message for Dwight.

Madison

Madison’s heroic death in the Season 4 finale was definitely heartbreaking for many as the heroine’s attitude made her an immediate crowd favorite. But recently, the messages on the trees have brought fans to speculate (and hope) on her return. After all, “no one’s gone until they’re gone.”

A leaked photo during the production of FTWD showed this message written on one of the trees. This same message was Madison’s last statement to her children.

Her death may have been confirmed within the storyline, but no dead body of Madison was shown on the horror-drama series, placing more doubt on her death. Alicia’s new quest to find the culprit behind the tree messages only fortifies this line of speculation.

New Character

Highlighting Sherry and Madison are definitely easy guesses, but that answer may be a little too easy for “Walking Dead” fanatics. It is also entirely possible that a new character or group has been leaving the messages, hoping to leave some positivity to the world and turn someone’s life away from the dark road they’re on.

It’s also plausible that this new character or group was inspired by Madison and Sherry’s appearance in their life. And whoever this new character or group is could be key to finding Madison or Sherry.
