Car Crash In Mexico Leaves 2 Actors Of Netflix’s ‘The Chosen One’ Dead, 6 Injured

Two actors from the upcoming Netflix series “The Chosen One” died in a car crash in Mexico on Thursday. Raymundo Garduño Cruz and Juan Francisco González Aguilar were onboard a van along with other cast and crew members of the series when the vehicle reportedly ran off-road and flipped over while they were cruising near the city of Mulege on the Baja California Sur peninsula.

Variety reported that a source close to the production team said that the group was in transit and headed to the local airport. They had come from Santa Rosalia city when the crash occurred in a desert area resulting in the death of the two actors and injuring two other cast members as well as four of the production crew. All are said to be in stable condition.

In an update from Deadline, new details have emerged about the accident with the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists looking into the accident. A spokesperson for the organization said they will continue to take all necessary actions to ensure all members of both cast and crew are safe in the work environment. “SAG-AFTRA has been in contact with Netflix and with the Mexican actors union ANDA about this incident and we are investigating the circumstances with local production.”

Meantime, Redrum, the company behind the film’s production has temporarily paused the filming of the series which began in Mexico in April. Netflix has yet to comment on the accident as investigation continues.

“The Chosen One” is a series based on the comic book “American Jesus” which was written by Mark Millar and artist Peter Gross. The story features the events surrounding the life of a 12-year-old boy who finds out he is the resurrected Jesus Christ. The boy realizes he also possessed all of Jesus' biblical powers and is destined to save the human race.

The series is written in both English and Spanish dialogue and is the latest project from the comic book company Millarworld which was acquired by Netflix back in 2017. Millar and Gross released their first television project in 2021 entitled, “ Jupiter’s Legacy”.
