Eva Royer, a member of the Hood County Republican Party, filed to run for Granbury City Council on August 19, 2024, according to an official Facebook post. However, Texas election law requires candidates to live within city limits for at least six months before filing.

Royer claimed nearly three years of residency, but evidence later surfaced showing she had only recently changed her address in July—and that the property she listed was being operated as an Airbnb.
Authorities say Royer's listed address wasn't her primary residence, but rather a short-term rental owned by her real estate brokerage, for which she had paid hotel occupancy taxes.
Meanwhile, her March 2024 primary vote was cast from a home outside city limits, further fueling voter fraud concerns. After her candidacy was called into question and a special council meeting was convened, Royer withdrew from the race.
She was arrested shortly thereafter while wearing her "Ban Democrat Chairs" shirt outside a Hood County Republican Executive Committee meeting. Royer now faces charges related to falsifying government documents and voter fraud—both serious felonies in the state of Texas.
