Meghan Markle’s tumultuous relationship with her father has been an open secret since the “Suits” star married into the royal family, but it looks like Thomas Markle’s recent move to share to the press her private letter for him is the last straw for the Duchess of Sussex.
Over the weekend, Meghan threatened to take legal action against The Mail on Sunday for publishing an emotional letter she wrote for her father, in which she told him how he had broken her heart into a million pieces.
In the letter, Meghan told her father to stop making up stories about how she had cut him out of her life since marrying Prince Harry. She also told her father that she “will never understand” why he would rather choose to lie to the press and put her in a bad light than reach out to her, even though she had already pleaded him to accept her help.
It can be recalled that Thomas missed the royal wedding last year. It was later revealed that he had actually intended to not attend the wedding and even colluded with a paparazzi agency to stage photos of him in his home in Mexico.
Since Meghan married Prince Harry, Thomas has repeatedly spoken out in the press, giving media interviews and talking about how Meghan has stopped getting in touch with him since being the Duchess of Sussex.
According to reports, Thomas had decided to allow Mail on Sunday to publish extracts of Meghan’s letter to him earlier this month in response to the critical interviews given by his daughter’s friends in a U.S. magazine. Meghan’s friends spoke to the publication to set the record straight about Meghan’s repeated efforts to reach out to her father, refuting Thomas’ claims about Meghan and revealing that the duchess even wrote him a heartfelt letter after the royal wedding last year.
It remains to be seen if Meghan’s plan to sue Mail on Sunday will finally inspire Thomas to keep his mouth shut about their strained relationship. Back in January, Thomas revealed to the press that he is writing a tell-all book about Meghan’s upbringing in response to “Meghan and Harry’s silence.”
“I can’t shut up because they have opened the door for a million people to criticize me and my family. The bottom line is that I’ve done nothing to deserve this kind of treatment. I cannot cut my tongue out and never speak again,” he told the press.
