Rapper Tory Lanez was detained before attempting to board a flight at the Las Vegas airport on Sunday morning. TSA agents running a check on his luggage found a substantially large amount of marijuana in one of his bags. Reports say the Canadian rapper was briefly held for questioning at the airport but was released soon after
According to TMZ, the 29-year-old Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson, was released without much fuss, however, the agents confiscated the weed. While medical marijuana has been legalized in most states, the recreational use of the drug is still considered illegal on a federal level and passengers are prohibited to fly with any amount.
Lanez may have likely missed his flight back to Los Angeles on that day and had taken advantage of the delay to book a gig. On his Instagram account, the rapper posted a story on the same day of his supposed flight and announced that he was performing at the Drai nightclub at Ceasar’s Palace that evening.
An investigation on his marijuana airport incident has been launched with sources saying he could be cited with a number of violations. Although the feds have not really pursued minor marijuana violations, there could be a possibility that the rapper may squeeze himself out of serious consequences this time around.
After facing some much talked about incidents such as that involving shooting Megan Thee Stallion in her foot in 2020, Lanez was charged earlier this year. Page Six was able to obtain medical records that stated three bullet fragments were found on Stallion’s feet. Initially, the singer had declined to reveal any information relating to being shot but recently, she went public to talk about her ordeal on TV. If convicted, Lanez could face up to 22 years in prison.
In March, he was also accused of ripping off the 1984 hit single "Careless Whisper" by George Michael’s estate. The estate has denied Lanez permission to use a portion of the late great pop singer’s song but this fell on deaf ears and the rapper used a sample of the song. George Michael’s estate took action and had Lanez’s track "Enchanted Waterfall" removed from Spotify and other streaming platforms.
