An “intoxicated” Tory Lanez allegedly roared “dance, bitch!” at American rapper Megan Thee Stallion before shooting her in the foot during a roadside spat following a pool party at Kylie Jenner’s Hollywood Hills mansion on July 12, 2020.
Los Angeles Police District Detective Ryan Stogner vividly recalled his exchange with the victim during police interviews and detailed the incident in testimony in the Alone at Prom rapper's felony assault case in Los Angeles, Variety reported.
Born Daystar Peterson, Lanez, 29, is accused of shouting obscenities addressed at Megan Thee Stallion, 26, whose legal name is Megan Pete, upon exiting a vehicle on July 12, 2020. The cop said Megan saw the defendant hold out his firearm and start firing a weapon on her.
"Megan immediately felt pain in her feet, observed blood, fell to the ground, and then crawled to an adjacent driveway of a residence," he added.
"She described her injuries as bleeding profusely," the Los Angeles County Superior Court heard during a preliminary hearing on Tuesday.
The detective noted Lanez would apologize for shooting Megan and "offered her money and begged her to please not say anything," citing Megan's account, which also noted that the attacker reportedly flagged he was already on probation at the time.
Stogner’s testimony then convinced Judge Keith Borjón that the Canadian "Say It" hitmaker must stand trial on felony charges for using a concealed semi-automatic firearm to attack and wound the Grammy-winning American rapper.
People noted that the defendant was in the courtroom listening to the testimony when his high-powered lawyer, Shawn Holley, questioned Detective Stogner on whether he checked how much Megan had to drink on the day of the incident.
Holley hinted that another person in the vehicle, a woman named Kelsey Harris, who is Megan's friend and former assistant, might be the one who pulled the trigger out of jealousy.
Suggesting that the argument in the car escalated after Lanez told Harris that he was in an intimate relationship with Megan, Holley told the court the rapper knew Kelsey had a romantic interest in Peterson, according to Rolling Stone.
The lawyer further claimed that during a police interview, Peterson told the cops, “I was just trying to protect my girl," noting the moment was captured on bodycam footage, something that Stogner said he did not recall seeing.
Lanez was initially arrested on July 13 for carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle but managed to post a $35,000 bail, resulting in his release later that day.
