Cardi B continues to go at it with political commentator Candace Owens about the rapper’s performance during the Grammy Awards show recently. Owens is one of many conservatives who have taken offense to the rapper’s sexually-explicit song “WAP.”
In the eyes of Owens, “WAP” is an attack on American values. In their Grammy Awards performance, Cardi B and fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion entangled their bodies on a giant bed. Owens believes it was a lesbian sex scene being simulated on television.
From there, a fierce exchange occurred on social media. Owens took exception to the fact that Cardi B was encouraging young women to strip themselves of dignity. In response, the rapper responded with a nude photo of former First Lady Melania Trump with the comment: “No! Candy, men treat women on how a woman allows a man to treat them.”
The nude photo of Melania Trump comes from a 1996 photoshoot that was published in a French magazine the year after. It cropped up again during the presidential campaign in 2016.
Besides that, Cardi B put up a second nude photo of Melania Trump but was slightly censored. The 28-year-old said she was just inspired by the former First Lady and could not understand why Owens took offense. She added that Ms. Trump was her idol.
“She showed me I can be naked perform wap and still be a First Lady one day ! ... wait so only White women can be naked and show their sexuality and evolve in their 30s but I can’t ? Wow America is soo unfair. To think this was the land of the free,” Cardi B said.
And just when it appeared the spat was coming to an end, Cardi B shared a doctored screenshot that appeared to show Owens tweeting that her husband cheated on her with her brother. According to Snopes, the photo was fake.
Regardless, Owens was not too amused. She threatened to sue the 28-year-old rapper for slandering her brother who she added was a private citizen.
