Sebastien De La Cruz, better known as "El Charro de Oro," has been unstoppable in recent days. The 11-year-old San Antonio native, decked out in traditional Mariachi attire, has so far sang in front of a crowd during the NBA finals -- twice! -- and dismantled his critics who tweeted racist remarks about his first venture at singing the Star-Spangled Banner in Game 3 of the 2013 NBA Finals.
He was invited back for an encore by the San Antonio Spurs, playing Thursday night at AT&T Center in San Antonio, for Game 4. The Mexican-American boy has proudly proclaimed his love for America and the Spurs in TV interviews after being questioned about his citizenship on Twitter. He charmed the crowd again Thursday night before the kick off of the Spurs vs. Miami Heat game, noticeably singing more fiercely and proudly.
The former "America's Got Talent" star told reporters that he is no longer bothered by the racist remarks, saying that it's "off his shoulders." He was thrilled to be invited back as the crowd roared in approval of his rendition of the Anthem, the AP reported.
"It makes me feel real good about myself," De La Cruz said. "It makes me feel like, in San Antonio, I know there are a lot of people that encourage me to keep on doing what I want to do."
San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro introduced the adorable singer Thursday night, giving him an official proclamation from the city.
"The message is that no matter what someone's background is, we have so many Americans who have true talent," Castro said. "And Sebastien is one of them."
