The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb demands a driver to tackle 12.42 miles of narrow cliff-side roads as it winds over 156 turns to reach the finish line 4,711 feet above the start. In fact, the summet measures 14,110 feet above sea level. For decades, it was considered impossible to tackle the hill climb in under ten minutes. Last year, Rhys Millen utterly shattered the 10-minute milestone with a blistering 9:46.181 hill climb. For 2013, Sebastien Loeb answered with a truly astounding time of 8:13.878.
Cresting Pikes Peak at more than a quicker than the previous record holder, the nine-time World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb stands alone in the Eight-Minute Club. In an attempt to retain his record, Rhys Millen climbed the mounatain 44-seconds quicker than his best time last year. However, that still placed Millen a fair 49 seconds behind the new king of the Hill.
Just 14 seconds shy of the 7 minute mark, many agree that a future record dipping under 8 minutes flat will be possible. Will Rhys Millen respond for 2014?
