One of the great things about “The Voice” this season is the diversity among the coaches. There is country man Blake Shelton with his deep Southern accent, and then there is spice Latina Shakira with her Colombian accent. But there is one coach who can impersonate her accent impeccably. This occurred last Tuesday during the blind auditions. She was luring Delvin Choice, one of the contestants she really wanted on her team and said “I, Shakira Mebarak, born in Barranquilla, Colombia, solemnly swear that I am going to take you to the top in this competition." Adam Levine also wanted that same contestant on his team, and with a perfect impersonation of Shakira’s Colombian accent said “I’m Adam Noah Levine from Los Angeles, California. I’m going to take you to the top. I solemnly swear. No problem. You come to my team, okay?” This made Shakira laugh.
Usher also wanted Choice on his team and said “many people raise their hand under oath, but they’re lying.” Again, in his Shakira voice Adam went on to say “You don’t know what kind of person I am! How can you do that to me?” Then she told Usher, making reference to one of her hit songs, “Hey, my hips don’t lie, and I don’t lie either. Okay? The rest of me don’t lie either.” Choice decided to go pick Adam as his coach stating “He really had the desire to want to get to know me more as an artist.”
Another thing that stands out on this show is that the coaches use help from mentors to guide the artists and assist in coaching them throughout the first rounds of competition. Blake Shelton’s wife, Miranda Lambert will be mentoring Team Shakira. She was previously a mentor for Team Blake in Season 2. The Band Perry will be assisting Team Blake, which means extra help because it means three mentors instead of one. Usher chose Jill Scott to be his team’s mentor, R&B star, actress and Grammy winner. Team Adam will be mentored by Aloe Blacc. Tune in to NBC as season 6 of “The Voice” continues tonight with more blind auditions and great talent. Watch this video of Adam's Shakira impersonation.
