With “Vikings” Season 6 set to premiere later this year, the net has been flooded with various spoilers and speculations. But one of the most exciting possibilities recently circulating is the fan theory that the show’s most popular character might be back this time around.

Ragnar Lothbrok, played to perfection by actor Travis Fimmel, was last seen in Season 4 in that emotional death scene that fans just couldn’t forget. He was beaten up, put in a cage and eventually thrown into a pit of snakes, which everyone assumed must have resulted in his demise.

But fans never lost hope and have been clamoring for the character’s return to the small screen. While it may appear impossible for Ragnar to survive a pit of venomous snakes, one fan theory suggests the possibility of how the character might have beaten the odds, which ultimately means that he just might make a surprise appearance in “Vikings” Season 6.

“Starting at least in season 3 Ragnar starts becoming fascinated with snakes,” a fan wrote on Reddit. “In the season that he lasts raids Paris we even see he has a house full of them. Now is it possible that Ragnar has slowly made himself immune to different snake's venom and didn't die in the pit?”

Of course, not everyone agrees with this fan theory. However, if it’s indeed true, it might pave the way for Ragnar’s return in the flesh in the upcoming season. “Someone feasibly could have gone down into the pit and carried him off, nursing him back to health in the meantime,” CinemaBlend explained.

However, Ragnar does not necessarily have to be alive to appear once more in the sixth season of the show. One possibility is that the king might be returning in flashbacks, which is a more likely scenario compared to the previous fan theory.

In “Vikings” Season 5, Ragnar’s son Bjorn was seen remembering a talk that he had with his father. Bjorn might be having the same trips down memory lane in the upcoming season, which could pave the way for Travis Fimmel’s return in the show’s last season.

Most fans probably feel that it is but fitting for Ragnar to return — in whatever way — to the show before it ends. “Ragnar is such a crucial key to Vikings that finishing the show without him is tantamount to blasphemy, in my opinion,” an article on CinemaBlend stated. “Even the briefest glimpse or flashback, if newly produced to reflect Vikings' final episodes, would be the emotional pin the series needs to say goodbye.”
