Fans will have to endure a long wait before “Vikings” Season 6 starts airing as it’s not expected to arrive until the later part of this year. Fortunately, it won’t be a lonely wait, thanks to the steady stream of details giving fans hints on what the upcoming season could bring.
Freydis Returns
Fans can expect a surprise return of a character who’s not supposed to be in the upcoming season. Freydis, who was killed by Ivar in Season 5’s finale for her betrayal, will be making a comeback of sorts next season.
Alicia Agneson, the Swedish actress who portrays Freydis on the series, already confirmed her return to “Vikings” last season. This is also confirmed in the recently released trailer, which briefly shows her character.
But since fans are pretty sure that Freydis really died by Ivar’s hands, there are a number of speculations as to how her return could be made possible. One scenario is that she only appears in flashbacks to complete the narration of certain events in the past. Another possibility is that Agneson might be portraying not Freydis this time but someone related to the character, which explains the resemblance. There were those who noticed that while the character who appeared in the trailer looked a lot like Freydis, her hair seemed to be darker.
A New Power Emerges
Show creator Michael Hirst likewise revealed a few details on the upcoming season. Apparently, a new power will emerge, one that is likely going to play a big role in how the saga of Ragnar’s sons will turn out. And this new powerful force will come from Kiev, Russia.
“We go to a new place again. We’re going to Rus, which is Kiev, and the Rus Vikings,” Hirst told Express.co.uk. “[There is] a new civilization there, a powerful civilization. There’s a new world the Vikings are going to become involved with.”
In fact, it is highly likely that it will be Ivar who will come into contact with this new power and somehow borrow its might to exact his revenge on his brother, Bjorn. In the new trailer, Ivar can be seen in a snowy landscape, which could be Kiev. “We should unleash our forces against our brothers,” Ivar told someone.
A New Character Is Coming
Meanwhile, a new character is coming to town. Oleg of Novgorod, a Viking prince who has conquered cities, will be making his entrance in “Vikings” Season 6. It was likewise announced that the Oleg will be portrayed by Danila Kozlovsky, a Russian actor.
Now there is a possibility that this new character might be somehow connected to the new power teased by Hirst. If such is the case, it is then reasonable to expect that Oleg could be Ivar’s new ally, the one whom Ivar was speaking to in the trailer.
At the moment, there is no official announcement for the release date of “Vikings” Season 6. However, fans are hopeful that it might happen by the end of this year.
