"Vampire Diaries" delivered a serious shock in its 100th episode. Fans were expecting to say goodbye to the series fierce female villain, but now it seems as though we may have seen the last of Elena Gilbert, the sweetheart of Mystic Falls. After the shocking reversal of the doppelgängers, with Katherine seamlessly taking possession of Elena's body, there is a lot of ground to cover in the next installment of "Vampire Dairies," and executive producer Julie Plec has assured the loyal "TVD" army that all their questions and concerns will be heard in the aptly named episode 12 "The Devil Inside." "I love the next episode so much because it's this great fallout of everything that happened in the 100th and it's so much fun," Plec teased to E! Online. "It's so painful and wonderful. I'm excited about the next few actually."
Painful and wonderful? I am assuming the main person enduring pain will be Elena. And most likely Damon who will be having to deal with his past love now inhabiting the body of his current girlfriend. In typical Katherine Pierce fashion, the undead traveler will be thoroughly enjoying her time within Elena's body. The pair are complete opposites, with Elena serving as the more loved of the doppelgängers. We are curious to see what Katherine will do with her new digs. The main drama will obviously incorporate the embattled Salvatore brothers because when does it not? Obviously Damon is on the search to get his girlfriend back. Katherine and her daughter Nadia are actively working on making the possession permanent, and Stefan is surprisingly team Katherine. Well maybe not fully on board with Katherine permanently eliminating Elena, but he certainly isn't willing to help his brother get his girlfriend back.
"Katherine's so into Stefan right now and so not into Damon right now, and yet Elena was about ready to re-embrace her relationship with Damon, and Damon was all ready to win back his girl, so you can only imagine how that's going to go down," said Plec. "Katherine does some of the bitchiest stuff as Elena in the next part of the chapter. It's great. It's Katherine at her most diabolical." Katherine at her worst, means that the villainous diva will certainly be at her best. And while I am a huge fan when the big bad witch is in town, does anyone else feel that Katherine's possession of Elena's was a weird cope out. She has progressed so much in Season 5, and even throughout the 100th episode. Fans and characters both realized that her stone heart has significantly softened. So why make her bad again? Well, mainly because everyone loves to see Nina Dorbev on her worst behavior and obviously Katherine couldn't die. Everyone playing nice with each other got a little too boring, so "Vampire Diaries" is bringing back the drama with a classic clash of the titans, Katherine vs. Elena, but this time winner really does take all.
