We've been drooling over the McLaren P1 for months and we've pretty much memorized the performance figures of the twin-turbocharged 3.8 liter V8 engine. Combined with its electric motor, the McLaren P1 produces 903 horsepower to the rear wheels. 0-to-100 km/h (62 mph) will take just 2.8 seconds and 0-to-200 km/h (124 mph) will only take 6.8 seconds, less time than what it would take a Volkswagen Golf to reach 62. Regardless of what the Porsche 918 Spyder claims on the lap of the Nurburgring, the McLaren P1 is the greatest automotive engineering marvel for the street that the world has seen yet. Period.
Now, Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear has finally got a chance to have a go in the incredible machine on the streets and circuits of Belgium. A painter with words, here's what Jezza has to say about the McLaren P1:
1.) On the weight of the McLaren P1: "It is, frankly, as well-equipped as a monk's underpants. It is designed to be as fat as Iggy Pop."
2.) On the speed of the McLaren P1: "Fast. Really fast. Mind-blowingly fast."
3.) On driving Eau Rouge in the McLaren P1: "Alright. Eau Rouge. Flat in a Formula 1 car.... not flat in this! Oh, they should have called this the widowmaker!"
4.) On the raw ability of the McLaren P1: "And as you hurdle around in a puddle of your own feces, grinning like an infant, the car is working on ways to go even faster."
