A Texas teen and her boyfriend are facing capital murder charges after authorities say they allegedly killed her grandmother, ransacked her home, and fled with stolen money and firearms.
Authorities believe 54-year-old Tammy King was killed on February 5, KHOU reported. Tara King, 17, reportedly argued with her grandmother that morning for refusing to let her boyfriend stay the night and attempting to make her go to school, according to court documents obtained by the outlet.
On February 6, Tammy King's boyfriend broke into her home when he was unable to reach her and discovered her naked body with a gunshot wound to the head and guns missing from safes in the bedroom. Investigators with Galveston County Sheriff's Office uncovered multiple Cash App transactions totaling thousands of dollars from Tammy's account to Tara's, along with failed attempts to transfer larger sums.
Tara King and her boyfriend Uriah Urick, 18, were arrested in Laredo on February 9 after allegedly attempting to sell stolen firearms and offering money for rides out of states. Several acquaintances reported that Tara allegedly admitted to the murder, saying they were high on meth at the time.
Family members described Urick as violent, with his own mother telling investigators she believed he was "capable of murder," KHOU reported. She also said Tara "hated" her grandmother for refusing to let Urick spend the night and had recently expressed a desire for Tammy to die.
The pair were eventually tracked down and taken into custody with assistance from the Gulf Coast Violent Offender Task Force. Both face capital murder charges as authorities continue their investigation.
