Police have responded to a reported shooting at a Dallas high school, exactly one year after students protested over safety concerns.

Students could be seen running and evacuating from Wilmer-Hutchins High School in clips shared to social media Tuesday afternoon after an individual reportedly opened fire. A 17-year-old was allegedly shot in the leg, sources told FOX 4.

Police received a call about the shooting just after 1 p.m. and the campus was secured by 2:15 p.m., as reported by WFAA. A source told the outlet that three people total were transported via ambulance, however their condition remains unknown.

So far no casualties have been reported.

Eight shots were heard at the time of the incident, as well as screaming, a senior at the school, Adonta Jackson, told the Dallas Morning News.

Exactly one year prior on April 15, 2024, students protested at the high school over safety concerns. On April 12, a student had been able to sneak in a gun and was able to shoot another student in the leg, NBC DFW reported at the time.

The district's superintendent, Dr. Stephanie Elizalde, said at the time that the school has metal detectors, but the student was able to get the gun past them and into the school. Dozens of students marched out in defense of their teachers, who they felt had been unfairly blamed for the incident.
