After a period of silence on social media, the Colombian singer Juan Luis Londoño, known as Maluma, posted a surprising message, sharing his personal transformation and what it might mean for his career.
"A lot has happened in the last month, beautiful things, a lot of transformation," Maluma revealed in his Instagram stories.
The singer explained that he stepped away from social media to "heal many things" within himself. This decision was influenced by the passing of his grandmother, which happened on his birthday.
"I celebrated my birthday, and on the same day, my grandmother passed away... It was a day of duality, of mixed emotions," he expressed, acknowledging the deep impact of the loss. He did not mention it, but last year also marked the birth of his daughter, Paris.
A different birthday
Maluma spent his birthday in Aspen, Colorado, describing the trip as one of "introspection." In a post, he announced his "rebirth," emphasizing his focus on inner peace and happiness. "Today, my only wish is for peace and happiness. From now on, Juan Luis is reborn—a more mature person, but with his inner child intact."
Maluma's awakening
The singer shared that he has reconnected with nature, reflecting on the importance of fresh air and the need to break free from monotony and material obsessions. His words hinted that he may extend his break from music.
"I'm happy to have opened my eyes, to have awakened and prioritized my physical and mental health. But in life, sometimes you need a wake-up call to truly see things. That's what happened to me. It's an uncomfortable process, but I believe the best values, experiences, and lessons come from discomfort," Maluma shared in a video while walking in nature with his dog, Buda.
Encouraging his followers to seek their own awakening before "hitting rock bottom," he stressed the importance of reflection, meditation, connecting with nature, and spending time with family.
He warned against getting caught up in work, material success, and societal expectations.
"There is more to life than a career, money, and societal pressures. From the moment we are born, we are given a name, a role, and that creates an attachment to ego that often leads us down the wrong path," he reflected.
"It's okay to have a career, to be successful, but that's not the priority. The priority in life is to breathe, be grateful, be present, and live in the now. We tend to dwell on the past and worry about the future, but neither truly exists," he added.
Maluma also criticized social media, calling it superficial and a breeding ground for unhealthy competition and material ambition. He admitted that he had fallen into that mindset but no longer wishes to follow that path. "Let's chase what's within, not what's outside," he urged.
While he confirmed that he will return to music, he made it clear that he is in no rush. "I will come back when the time is right. I have no urgency—my priority now is living, enjoying life, and embracing the present," he concluded.
But for now, Maluma's spiritual journey continues, keeping him away from his music for a little longer.
