A 17-year-old boy who questioned his mother’s affair was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend. The shocking murder happened Monday, Oct.4. in Halsuru, a town in the state of Karnataka, India.
The boy, identified as Nandu, a resident of Murphy Town, lived with his mother, Geetha. According to reports, Geetha and Nandu’s father had separated six years ago.
She had recently befriended an unmarried autorickshaw driver, identified as Shakthivelu over Facebook. The two eventually got close and later allegedly got into a physical relationship, reports said.
Nandu knew about his mother’s affair and strongly disapproved of it and even got into fights whenever the man visited his home.
On Monday night, Shakthivelu came to see the woman unaware that her son was home. The two got into a heated altercation during which Shakthivelu grabbed a kitchen knife and repeatedly stabbed the teenager in front of his mother.
The horrified mother came forward and stopped Shakthivelu from attacking her son. She then rushed the teen to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
The police were alerted of the incident and officers responded to the hospital and recorded the mother’s statement.
Based on her statement, the Halasuru police have arrested Shakthivelu and have charged him with relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
A further probe is underway and the police are questioning the mother and the victim’s family members to gain a better insight into the deadly incident.
“We’re verifying Geetha’s role in the incident. We’ll take necessary action," a police officer said.
The teen boy’s body was sent to a medical examiner’s office for an autopsy and later handed over to his family for performing his last rites.
During the teenager’s funeral procession on Tuesday, an angry mob of villagers protested causing the police to unleash a mild lathi-charge.
In another incident, a mother attempted to kill herself after poisoning her one-year-old daughter because she did not like to live in her husband's village.
The woman, identified as Leela Nayak, a resident of the Mandva village in India's Rajkot, consumed poison before feeding it to her toddler daughter, Asmita.
The duo was rushed to a nearby hospital where the child died during treatment and Nayak is currently recuperating.
The woman was booked for murder based on a complaint lodged by her husband.
