Son Smashes Mom's Head For Not Serving Dinner, Victim Dies On Spot

A man has been arrested for the alleged murder of his elderly mother after she failed to serve him dinner.

The suspect, identified as Sanjeev, who hails from the Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh, India, murdered his 70-year-old mother, Sukhdei on Sunday, Aug. 1, following a heated argument over dinner, police said.

According to the police, after the death of her husband the woman lived with her two sons, Sanjeev and Rajiv, both of them daily wage laborers.

On Sunday, Sukhdei couldn’t cook any food for her or her sons as they had run out of ration. When Sanjeev got home from work he gave some money to his mentally challenged brother to bring rice and vegetables. Sanjeev then went out, police said.

He came home later in the night and asked his mother to serve dinner. The mother said she hasn’t cooked anything as Rajiv did not bring any ration.

In a fit of rage, Sanjeev smashed his mother’s head with an unspecified heavy object. She reportedly died on the spot.

When neighbors informed Sukhdei’s daughter, Urmila about the murder, she immediately called the police and alerted them about the incident.

Police officers responded to the home and located the victim lying in a pool of blood. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The police have registered a case against the suspect, Bareilly SP City Ravindra Kumar said. He has been arrested and is being interrogated, Kumar added.

Investigators visited the crime scene to gather evidence. The victim’s relatives and neighbors are being interrogated, he said.

During the questioning, relatives told the police that Sanjeev was an alcoholic and had attacked his mother several times in the past after coming home in an inebriated state.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a 24-year-old man allegedly strangled his mother and then stabbed her to death while she was asleep.

The suspect, identified as Karan Joshi, who hails from the Damka village of Surat in Gujarat, India, has been arrested for the murder of his 55-year-old mother, identified as Geeta.

The suspect's father alleged in a complaint that his son was always hanging out with his friends and misspend a lot of money on them. Upset by his actions, the parents stopped paying his bills and forced him to get married.

On Monday, August 2, the suspect got into a heated argument with his parents before storming out of the home. When he returned home late in the night, his mother refused to open the door.

After about 15 minutes of squabble, the mother let her son come inside the home. She then went to her bedroom and retired for the night.

When she was asleep, the suspect went to her room and strangled her before repeatedly stabbing her in the abdomen.

The suspect was arrested without incident, police said.
