The master of breathtaking movie magic Guillermo del Toro is about primed to delight the Kurt Vonnegut fandom by joining forces with another Hollywood superstar -- hailed writer Charlie Kaufman, known best for his writing in "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and "Being John Malkovich," Word and Film reported. The duo is said to be tackling Vonnegut's beloved science fiction book, "Slaughterhouse-Five." While Del Toro has been confirmed as director for a while -- the original release date on this film being way back in 2011 until he began working on "The Hobbit" trilogy -- Kaufman is the newest addition to the team, though it's yet to be verified, Huffington Post reported. This is the second film adaption of the book since the 1972 version directed by George Roy Hill.
"Charlie [Kaufman] and I talked for about an hour-and-a-half and came up with a perfect way of doing the book," Del Toro told the Telegraph. "I love the idea of the Trafalmadorians [the aliens of 'Slaughterhouse-Five'] - to be 'unstuck in time,' where everything is happening at the same time. And that's what I want to do. It's just a catch-22."
He went on to say that the production of the movie would be slow going, with the screenplay not yet being hammered out. He also made mention that it would be pricey to put Kaufman in charge of the writing. Kaufman appears to be the perfect fit for the job as he is most notable for "weirdness," something Vonnegut made a living off of being. Tag teaming with the equally weird and wonderful del Toro could take the film in the right direction, though details won't be available until del Toro is absolutely ready to revisit the project again.
What do you think? Who should be the one writing this script?
