Folks who followed the 1990s sports manga “Slam Dunk” have reason to rejoice. The author of the 90s hit manga announced via social media that another “Slam Dunk” movie is in the works.
Takehiko Inoue, the author of the manga series, announced on Twitter. The post showed a video sketch that read: "Slam Dunk It will be a movie #slamdunkmovie."
Aside from that Twitter post, an official website for the “Slam Dunk” move was also launched. Unfortunately, it has yet to contain useful content and information about the said movie.
Also, it has yet to be known how involved Toei Animation will be in the film. They are the same group that was in charge of the animation production of the film in 1993.
According to GNN, Toei Animation confirms that “Slam Dunk” will be an animated film. This somehow clears the air with some wondering it if would be an anime-adapted for live-action.
As far as its release, it also has yet to be known if the film would get a theatrical release or be sent off direct to Blu-Ray.
“Slam Dunk” proved to be a big hit when it ran from 1990 to 1996. It was centered on the main character Hanamichi Sakuragi after joining the Shohoku High School basketball team. The manga is one of the best-selling titles in history, having sold over 120 million copies.
It is also ranked as the third top manga of all-time behind “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” and “One Piece” according to a survey.
The “Slam Dunk” series marked its 30th anniversary in 2020 with some speculating that there were plans to release it last year. Given that most had to adjust to the conditions set forth by the pandemic, those plans may have now been carried out. As of this writing, there is no timeline or an official release date for the manga.
