Shakira Hired Detective To Follow Gerard Pique Amid Cheating Rumors: Report

Singer Shakira reportedly hired a detective to follow Gerard Pique when they were still a couple.

According to MARCA, after learning that the former footballer had cheated on her with another woman, many details emerged about how Shakira found out about his infidelity. Presenters of "Cuatro al Dia" said that in March 2022, Shakira got a call from her then-partner, Pique, while she was in the U.S. shooting for a show. He asked the singer for space, and it raised her suspicions. It was then that she took advantage of this situation to "enlist the services of a detective." Then it led to photographs of Pique with the then-unknown Clara Chia Marti.

Shakira reportedly asked Pique to go to couples therapy, but this proposal did not seem to please him. He rejected it and moved into a flat on his own. Months went by and he was asked to return to the house where he had lived with Shakira, but it didn't work out.

It was back in 2010 when Shakira met the Spanish football player on the set of her song, "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)." The music video for the song, which was the official anthem of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, featured many football stars, including Lionel Messi and Pique, whose team was that year's champion. Later, they confirmed their relationship and went on to have their first child together, Milan, on Jan. 22, 2013. On Jan. 29, 2015, the couple welcomed their second child together, a son, Sasha.

Shakira and Pique never got married, and in a joint interview with CBS's "60 Minutes," they spoke about why they never walked down the aisle. Shakira said that "marriage scares the sh** out of me," and she didn't want "him to see me as the wife. I'd rather him see me as his girlfriend." Pique agreed, and said, "The girlfriend."

In June 2022, the two announced that they had split up after being together for 11 years, reported Insider. She went on to launch a single with Argentine hitmaker Bizarrap, titled "BZRP Music Session #53." In the track, the Colombian singer sings about being betrayed by a partner and being replaced by someone younger, all hinting at Pique and his new girlfriend, who is 23.
