What is it about Blake Shelton that everyone (especially women) want to work with him? This country hunk released a hot single with fellow “The Voice” mentor, Christina Aguilera titled “Just A Fool” last year, with amazing harmonies and a perfect blend of both voices. That wasn’t enough for Blake, who reportedly recorded a song with Shakira, this season’s mentor stepping in for Aguilera. Although the song hasn’t been released yet, Shakira opened up about it and dished a few details on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show.
First of all, Shakira is turning country for this single, and not only that, she was the one who wrote the song. She admitted that the whole experience with Blake was “awesome.” “We just [recorded it] -- It’s a country song,” she states, adding that it’s a mix of “country, folk.” Although she’s very pleased with the outcome of the song, she revealed she was nervous at the beginning when she presented the single to Blake.
“I wrote the song with some people from Nashville and I sent it to him and I was super nervous,” she says. “I was like, ‘Oh my God. What’s he going to think?’ And he loved it. He said, ‘Wow! This is exactly what you were talking about. I love this song.’” Shakira also said she was the boss throughout the making of the song. “I kind of directed him,” she added, laughing. There’s still no word on the song’s title or if it will have a special release, but one thing is for sure, it’ll be on Shakira’s new album, dropping March 25.
Hopefully they’ll premiere it on “The Voice,” where Shakira and Usher return to take Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green’s spots for this season. Stay tuned for the new season, debuting Feb. 24 on NBC. And in case you doubted about Shakira’s country abilities, here’s a performance of Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Know” featuring none other than Blake Shelton.
