For months now we have known that "Scandal" would not return to ABC at its usual time in the fall at the end of September or early October. During the network's annual upfront event a few months back, it was announced that the political drama would switch to a midseason premiere, following a fall run of the new series "Notorious." The move to midseason also means the episode order was reduced from 22 to 16.
The reason for the pushed premiere is to accommodate series star Kerry Washington's pregnancy. Back in May, sources confirmed to E! that Washington and husband ex-NFL star Nnamdi Asomugha are expecting their second child. The pair welcomed a daughter, Isabella, in April 2014, around the end of "Scandal's" third season.
With news of Washington's pregnancy, fans theories have run rampant, suggesting the stars character, Olivia Pope, will return to Season 6 expecting a child of her own. Washington had a chance to discuss the rumor and revealed there are currently no plans to write the actress' second pregnancy into the storyline.
"As far as I know, we're going to be hiding things," Washington told E! News at this weekend's Sag-Aftra Foundation Golf Classic. "But stay tuned!"
Meanwhile, creator Shonda Rhimes has revealed that Tony Goldwyn's character Fitzgerald Thomas Grant III will not be going anywhere, although he is no longer president. Rhimes told The Hollywood Reporter, "I can't tell you any of that — but there is a plan. Tony is not going anywhere; where would he go?!"
Goldwyn also spoke of Fitz next move saying, "He'll be much happier as the post-president than as the president."
Other cast members compared Fitz's next move with former U.S. Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton.
"Scandal" will return to ABC with a midseason finale. Until then check out the interview with Washington below.
