"How to Get Away with Murder" will return to ABC this fall and thanks to executive producer Peter Nowalk, we have an idea of what will happen in the coming third season.
As far as the plot is concerned for Season 3, Nowalk told TV Line that they will try to do a balance in terms of the number of cases being featured. Last season, the Hasptall case took up a lot of the focus so there was no room for cases of the week as well as Rose's (Kelsey Scott) case.
"I like switching it up, honestly. I don’t want the show to become stale," Nowalk said.
The executive also revealed that one thing is for certain: Annalise (Viola Davis) will continue doing her job whether it is the case of the week or the case of the season.
"How To Get Away With Murder's" third season will premiere in September on ABC. Actor Jack Falahee (who plays Connor Walsh) confirmed that filming for the series will begin next month in July.
Meanwhile, Nowalk revealed that fans may see the relationship between Michaela (Aja Naomi King) and Asher (Matt McGorry) explored in Season 3. If you recall, in Season 2 the characters were in a tough spot, committed to other people, and did not take the risk to see what they had with each other. However, with the death of Caleb (Kendrick Sampson) the possibility is open again.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Nowalk addressed the relationship between Michaela and Asher. The head writer revealed that both Bonnie (Liza Weil) and Michaela will view Asher as a safe guy to be with. Part of the reason they think this way is because Asher is transparent with his emotions. He also has a vulnerable side to him that both women are drawn to. For Michaela’s part, she needs to reassess her previous relationships and decide for herself what she wants moving forward.
"How to Get Away with Murder" Season 2 also teased a potential romance between Wes (Alfred Enoch) and Laurel (Karla Souza) when the pair shared a kiss in the car in episode 12 "It's a Trap."
