Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II showed their moral support for their granddaughter, Lady Louise Windsor, who competed at the Royal Windsor Horse Show this week. The royal couple was joined by Lady Louise’ mom, Sophie, Countess of Wessex.
A photo shows the Duke of Edinburgh sitting on his carriage while watching Lady Louise drive a horse-drawn carriage. The Queen was also photographed at the event, which is one of her favorites. Her Majesty has not missed the Royal Windsor Horse Show since it launched in 1943.
Lady Louise, the eldest child of Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, took after her grandparents’ fondness for the sport. Even at a young age, she has already been photographed riding and driving her carriage. In the past, she has also competed in the British Driving Society Championship for Young Drivers.
When Prince Philip was much younger, he represented Britain in three European championships and six world championships.
Meanwhile, Lady Louise’ recent outing was one of the rare times she has been seen in public. She and her younger brother, James, Viscount Severn, have been leading relatively private lives compared with their older cousins, Prince William, Prince Harry, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
During a previous interview, Sophie explained why she decided to keep her two children out of the spotlight. “Certainly, when they were very young, we tried to keep them out of it,” she said. “Only because for their sakes, to grow up as normally as possible, we felt it was quite important. And they’re going to have to go out and get a job and earn a living later on in life and if they’ve had a normal start in life as they possibly can get then hopefully that will stand them in good stead,” she added.
Sophie is not the only member of the royal family who wants to give her children a normal life. Prince William and Kate Middleton have also vowed to do their best in making sure Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis would be able to enjoy their childhood.
