Princess Diana continues to be remembered up to this day for her legacies and her great impact to the public extends beyond her home country.

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s recently concluded official tour to Pakistan, a country where Princess Diana spent a significant amount of time within three visits, revealed the impact that the Princess of Wales had left on the people.

"I was telling Prince William that I was in the outbacks - my constituency, which is Mianwali," Prime Minister Imran Khan told CNN. "I was touring my constituency when I heard of the accident, and I can tell you that the impact it had on the people shocked me."

"I mean, these were rural peasants. I wouldn't have even thought they would have heard of Princess Di," he continued. "But when they heard of accident and her death... I was amazed at how Princess Diana had penetrated, even in these rural constituencies."

Khan welcomed Princess Diana to Lahore, Pakistan in her private visit in 1996, CNN reported. She also participated in a fundraising activity for Khan’s project on a cancer hospital which is now named the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre.

Prince William also had a heartwarming exchange with a fourteen-year-old schoolgirl who told him that she was a fan of his mother, Diana.

"Oh that's very sweet of you," William told her, as reported by Sky News.

He continued, "I was a big fan of my mother too. She came here three times. This is my first time and it is very nice to be here and meet you all."

Pakistan was a unique visit for Princess Diana as her 1991 trip to the country was her first official solo tour. Her former protection officer, Ken Wharfe, described the success of her first visit in his book.

“The headlines screamed that Diana had taken Pakistan by storm, that her visit had been a resounding success,” he wrote in “Diana – Closely Guarded Secret”.

“The tabloids predictably hailed her vociferously as the jewel in the royal family’s crown, one of them claiming, employing a typically lame pun, that she was ‘All the Raj’.”

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s trip lasted from October 14 to 18. Queen Elizabeth paid visits to Pakistan in 1961 and in 1997.
