Just last month, the world remembered Princess Diana’s death anniversary and many fans are still wondering what it would look like today if she had lived.
Moreover, as her two sons are now building families of their own, it remains a wonder how the Princess of Wales would be like as a grandmother.
In an HBO documentary entitled “Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy” released in 2017, Prince William jokingly stated that Princess Diana would have been a “nightmare grandmother” to his kids.
"She'd be a nightmare grandmother - absolute nightmare,” he said. "She'd love the children to bits but she'd be an absolute nightmare.”
"She'd come and go and she'd come in, probably at bath time, cause an amazing amount of scene, bubbles everywhere, bathwater everywhere, and then leave."
The Duke of Cambridge also constantly talked to his children about the grandmother that they were not able to meet, Mirror reported.
As his wife Kate Middleton was also not able to meet the iconic Princess Diana, the Duke often carried out the task of reminding their children that they have two grandmothers.
"It's important that they know who she was and that she existed," he said in the same HBO documentary.
The beloved Princess of Wales met her unfortunate death in a car accident in August 31, 1997 when Prince William was only 15 and Prince Harry was 12.
Today, Princess Diana already has four grandchildren. Three are Prince William and Middleton’s children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louise.
A source told Us Weekly that Prince William would tell his children that “she’s watching over them in heaven.”
Her youngest grandchild is Archie, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son who was born on May 6.
Back in her time, Princess Diana left remarkable legacies that are beyond royal parenting traditions.
Prince William reportedly was the first heir to the throne who was born outside the palace, in a hospital just like most of newborn children. Years later, Middleton and Markle would also give birth to their children outside the palace and in hospitals.
Princess Diana also broke the tradition of going on tours and leaving young children behind as she took a nine-month-old Prince William on an official overseas visit.
His son, Prince Harry, is quick to follow her footsteps. He and Markle are brought five-month-old Archie this on an official South Africa trip this September.
