Prince William and Kate Middleton have surpassed quite a number of ordeals in their relationship in order to get where they are today. Here is a short history of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s inspiring royal love story.

2001: Their Official Meeting

The prince officially met Kate at St. Andrews University in Scotland. It was here that the now Duchess of Cambridge famously caught William’s eye while modeling in a see-through dress for a fashion show.

It has previously been reported that this was not actually their first meeting. According to some friends of the couple, Kate met Prince William back when she was still in her sixth form.

2002: The Roommate Phase

Prince William moved from the dorms into a flat with three friends. One of the friends was reportedly Kate Middleton.

2004: The First Breakup

The lesser-known split of the couple happened in 2004. The prince was reportedly feeling claustrophobic from the relationship, and they decided to have a “trial separation.”

2004: The Controversial Skiing Trip

The happy couple was once again seen together, having been photographed on a skiing trip in Klosters. The photographs brought Prince Charles into a fit as popular publication The Sun broke the agreement that the media would lay-off the kids while they were still going through school.

2005: Their Graduation Day

Kate and William graduated from St. Andrews in 2005. A photo showing the couple together on their graduation day was later shared by Kate’s family.

2006: Their Public Appearance

In 2006, the couple made their first big appearance together at Laura Parker-Bowles’ wedding. The media and fans alike started buzzing about marriage rumors and speculations.

2007: The Second Breakup

In 2007, Kate and the prince broke it off, presumably because things were going a bit quick for them both. The breakup is rumored to be the result of Camilla Parker-Bowles’ meddling as she was allegedly jealous of all the favors that Kate had been pulling in.

2008: The Reconciliation

After being sighted in a Princess Diana tribute concert the year before, the couple was once again spotted on a skiing trip, fully confirming to the public that they had gotten back together.

October 2010: The Engagement

William finally proposed to Kate in 2010 while on a trip to Kenya. He proposed with Princess Diana’s beautiful sapphire engagement ring.

“We had a little private time away together with some friends, and I just decided it was the right time really,” he said. “We'd been talking about marriage or a while, so it wasn’t a massively big surprise, but I took her up somewhere nice in Kenya.”

April 29, 2011: The Cambridge Wedding

The royal couple got married at Westminster Abbey in front of nearly 72 million people. Kate is given the titles Duchess of Cambridge, Countess of Strathearn and Lady Carrickfergus.

December 2012: The First Pregnancy

Buckingham Palace announced that the duchess is pregnant with their first child. During this period of pregnancy, Kate was diagnosed with the condition hyperemesis gravidarum. On July 22, 2013, Prince George was born.

September 2014: The Second Pregnancy

An early announcement of Kate’s pregnancy was made because of the looming press. Princess Charlotte was birthed on May 2, 2015, and is currently the highest-ranking female in line to the throne.

September 2017: The Third Pregnancy

Kate was once again pregnant and continued to suffer from her condition. Prince Louis was welcomed to the world on April 23, 2018, and is one of the first to be affected by the Act of Succession of 2013.

Now William and Kate are happy parents of three beautiful children. And despite their duties as future king and queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms, they’re still hands-on when it comes to the royal kids. And they try to keep it royal but real when it comes to parenting.

Recently, speculations are rife on a possible baby number four. But the royal couple or the Palace has not yet given any confirmation regarding the rumors.
