A social media dispute between two teens escalated into violence Monday, resulting in the stabbing of a 15-year-old Illinois girl.
The victim suffered serious injuries but is now in stable condition after undergoing surgery, according to Joliet police.
Officers responded around 2:45 p.m. local time to witness reports of an altercation, Patch reported. When they arrived, witnesses indicated the victim was stabbed in the torso by a 16-year-old girl with whom she had an online feud.
Police were initially unable to locate the suspect but her parents turned her in to the Joliet Police Department that evening. She was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and other related offenses.
The suspect is now in custody at the River Valley Justice Center. During her police interview, she confirmed that she knew the victim and the incident stemmed from a social media dispute.
