Volvo Polestar S60
Volvo Polestar S60 Volvo

We first heard of Polestar when the Swedish motorsports firm introduced its wild Volvo C30 Polestar concept. Offering 405-hp from a turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission, Haldex all-wheel drive, Brembo brakes, and Öhlins dampers and springs, Polestar created a hot hatch like nothing else. What's more, applying aero elements adopted from the firm's wind-tunnel-proven STCC race cars, the C30 featured a bit of racing heritage as well. Unfortunately, the C30 Polestar never made it to production.

A year later, the Polestar tuners are making headlines once again, this time featuring the S60 sedan.

According to Volvo, the concept was commissioned by an individual client requesting for Polestar to build a S60 sedan to the outfit's own preferences. The client would then agree to purchase the vehicle once promotional duties were satisfied.

We'd say its satisfied because it certainly caught our attention.

2012 Polestar S60 TTA race car

Based on Polestar's Volvo S60 race car fielded in the TTA Swedish racing series, the one-off S60 Polestar receives a powerful Garret turbo 3.0 liter straight-six engine, bumping the performance from the stock 300-hp to a face melting 508-hp! 0-to-60 mph takes just 3.9 seconds and the Polestar will continue accelerating until a top speed of 186 mph.

Tuning the S60 like a motorsport company should, the S60 Polestar also gets an upgrade to the drivetrain and chassis, featuring a reinforced six-speed manual, tuned haldex all wheel drive, and Brembo brakes just like the C30 Polestar.

In terms of the exterior, the S60 will feature a tasteful custom bodykit and carbon fiber diffuser.

You're probably wondering when you could buy one. Unfortunately, Piston Heads reports that the only example of the S60 Polestar will be sold to the private individual for a cool $300,000.

This is a bit frustrating. Volvo has demonstrated an effective partnershp with Polestar not once, but twice without following through with a production series.

However, it's too soon to give up hope just yet. There's definitely more to come from the Volvo and Polestar collabo.
