Renowned auto journalist Chris Harris test drove the Noble M600 earlier this year. Classically equipped with a mid-engine V8 and rear-wheel-drive, its mad combination of twin-turbochargers and the glaring lack of driving aids (no anti-lock brakes) had Harris compare its temperament to a particularly iconic machine- the Ferrari F40.
A modern, brutally honest supercar without any nonsense, the Noble M600 is a rare work of art. Now, the British automaker of Leicester plans to take its M600 supercar even further by releasing a new teaser image of a M600 convertible design study.
In the past, Noble vehicles have always been about raw performance. Likewise, that is exactly what the bulk of Noble's customers demand. However with the potential addition of the stunning drop top, Noble may enter into a more glamorous market.
On paper, this is a very simple, almost logical approach. The Noble M600 Roadster will carry over everything that made the M600 great, including the Yamaha-built 4.4 liter V8 engine based on the Volvo XC90 SUV. All it has to do is lose the roof and it's suddenly a completely different animal.
According to Noble managing director Peter Boutwood, the M600 Roadster is already good for production. All it takes now is a sufficient demand for such a car and the project will move forward.
While the standard M600 evoked Ferrari F40-like characteristics, a M600 Roadster has got me wondering whether that would be what a mid-engine Dodge Viper RT/10 would feel like.
