Is there such a thing as life after “Breaking Bad”? Well, certainly not for me but Aaron Paul is moving on to bigger and even more explosive things. Paul, who plays Jesse Pinkman in AMC’s groundbreaking hit drama series, will be moving from the TV screens to the silver screen.
The 34-year-old actor stars in a new film, “Need for Speed” alongside “Fifty Shades of Grey” actress Dakota Johnson. The film is based off the car-racing video game of the same name; Paul will portray the protagonist, Tobey Marshall. The beginning of the new trailer would lead some fans to believe that “Need for Speed” is an intense sequel to “Breaking Bad,” Paul sits in behind the wheel of a car as a voice-over states, “They took everything from me.” The intensity builds and the audience soon learns that Jesse Pinkman is no Tobey Marshall. The notable difference in Paul’s voice transitions him far from “Breaking Bad,” into a deeper and darker action film star.
“Need for Speed” follows Paul’s character Marshall, a street racer who is wrongly sent to prison after being framed by a wealthy businessman. Marshall seeks revenge against his longtime friend and partner turned enemy by partaking in a cross-country race, however, during the race a bounty is placed on his head. The film is set for release March 14, 2014.
“Need for Speed” will be an essential transition work for Paul, who is largely known for his role on “Breaking Bad.” Despite having won two Emmy Awards for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series for his portrayal of Jesse in the critically acclaimed AMC series, this film will be essential for Paul if he is too succeed professionally post “Breaking Bad.” And this film is not only vital for the actor alone, “Need for Speed” will set the precedent for video game adaptions into movies. Past high-profile game adaptions have failed to impress fans of the series, most notably, "Assassin's Creed," and "Ratchet and Clank."
“Need for Speed” also stars Dominic Cooper, Imogen Poots, Kid Cudi, and Michael Keaton. Check out the action packed trailer below and let us know what think in the comments section!
