"The Last: Naruto the Movie" finally arrived in theaters over the weekend. Without giving too much away for Naruto fans that have yet to watch the movie, "The Last: Naruto the Movie" features two main stories: the Ninja world's battle against a new foe known as Toneri Otsutsuki, and the love story of Naruto and Hinata. In addition, "Naruto" creator Masashi Kishimoto made a special announcement at the end of the movie screening as well: a new anime movie starring Naruto's son Bolt is slated for 2015.
According to Shonen Jump, "The Last: Naruto the Movie" marks the beginning of the "Naruto New Era Opening Project," also known as "Naruto Shin Jidai Kaimaku Project." As both the final chapter of the "Naruto Shippuden" manga and "The Last: Naruto the Movie" are dedicated to setting the stage for Naruto and Hinata's children, their oldest son Bolt and their daughter Himawari, it is apparent that the new era of Naruto will focus on a new generation of the shinobi world.
"I have started a difficult thing.... Even after finishing the serialization, I have no time to rest," said Kishimoto during the movie screening. "I am currently thinking about a story between Bolt and Sasuke's daughter Salad. Sasuke and Sakura will be in it, too."
"I am also thinking about Bolt's lethal technique," Kishimoto added. No doubt, the new era of the "Naruto" franchise is going to be epic.
According to Anime News Network, Kishimoto is working on an all-new Konoha manga, an art exhibit, and a stage play that are all slated to debut next spring. Due to the massive volume of future projects, even Kishimoto's associates are anxious to learn what is next for "Naruto."
"I can't possibly guess what's it about. But I am really looking forward to it," said "Naruto" voice actress Junko Takeuchi. Stay tuned as we find out more about the "Naruto Next Era Opening Project" in the months ahead.
