"The Last: Naruto The Movie" had already released in theaters in Japan on Dec. 6. By Dec. 17, Crunchyroll reported that the movie has reached 1 Billion Yen, or 8.5 million US dollars at the box office. Following its incredible domestic performance, a Feb. 20 US release date is officially announced!
According to North American anime distributor Viz Media, "The Last: Naruto The Movie" will begin its run in US theaters on Feb. 20 in cities including New York, Boston, Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, and more. Tickets will go on sale beginning in mid-January.
"The Last: Naruto The Movie" is set some time after "Naruto Shippuden" manga ends. A mysterious new villain named Toneri Otsutsuki is said to be the direct descendant of the Sage of Six Paths and the legendary Princess Kaguya Otsutsuki, the first human to ever consume the forbidden fruit of the Shinju tree of chakra.
"The moon has begun moving closer to Earth! As it is, the moon will crumble and meteorites will rain down on Earth's surface," wrote Shonen Jump. "As the last days of Earth approach, Hanabi Hyūga is abducted by a mysterious man in Konoha, and Naruto, Sakura, Sai, Shikamaru, and Hinata set off on a rescue mission! Can Naruto and the others overcome this crisis?"
