Last week, a leaked report from "Weekly Shonen Jump" magazine announced that the highly anticipated "Boruto: Naruto the Movie" release date is August 7, 2015, in Japanese theaters. What's more, a movie cover art featuring Boruto and Hokage Naruto in the background was unveiled. The upcoming "Boruto" movie also features a tagline that reads: "That's tacky, Hokage/crappy old man."
According to earlier reports, the new "Boruto: Naruto the Movie" will focus on Bolt and his relationship with father Naruto, friend Salada, and the Konoha Village of the Leaf. Meanwhile, rumors also suggest that the plot will involve the return of the dangerous Orochimaru. As always, the legendary Sannin is obsessed with forbidden jutsu and immortality. Previously, Orochimaru tried to use Sasuke's body as a vessel in order to prolong his life and obtain the powerful Sharingan of the Uchiha clan. Now, Orochimaru may attempt to do this again by luring Salada, the daughter of Sasuke and Sakura, as well as Bolt, the son of Naruto and Hinata.
"This Boruto movie features all new characters, starting everything from zero," said Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto in a special message. "It means, it still exists only in my head, who is the original creator. For the first time in this 11th Naruto movie, I wrote the screenplay all by myself, provided the ideas for character designs, refined them till I was satisfied, then discussed more with the staff seeking perfection. After the serialization finished, I have spent all of my time used to spend for manga to this movie. Here is the Naruto movie that I have really wanted to make. One last word..., now I can't draw anything more than this...."
It is no easy task to create character designs and screenplay and it is obvious that the creativity necessary to complete "Boruto: Naruto the Movie" has taken its toll on Kishimoto after more than a decade of "Naruto." On a final note, Kishimoto told the fans that he cannot "draw anything more than this." That said, we do know that a "Boruto" manga spinoff is on its way as well. According to reports from AnimeNewsNetwork and Crunchyroll, the "Naruto Gaiden" manga is slated to arrive on April 27.
As far as we know, both the upcoming "Boruto: Naruto the Movie" and "Naruto Gaiden" are stories that make up Kishimoto's "Naruto Shin Jidai Kaimaku Project," or "Naruto's New Era Opening Project. Stay tuned as we expect to learn what else is in store for the beloved Naruto franchise in the months ahead.
