A body of a woman, whose throat appeared to be slit, was found in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), a business and residential district in Mumbai, India. The woman was said to be raped prior to her death.
According to The Times of India, the incident was reported to the police by some locals after they discovered the woman’s dead body abandoned on a road. The cops who responded and investigated the case have found out that the woman was raped before she was killed.
An initial medical examination concluded that aside from an incision through the neck, other injuries were also found in the woman’s private parts. A BKC police officer suggested that the woman was a “sex worker” and said that she might have been killed due to “some money matter”.
Charges were also said to be filed against the unidentified person who committed the crime under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections for rape and murder while a task force has been formed in order to track him down.
Meanwhile, the authorities requested copies of all CCTV footage along the vicinity to speed up the identification of the person who was responsible for the multiple crimes.
In another incident, on Monday, three members of a family had attempted to kill their daughter-in-law by slitting her throat. The alleged incident took place after the woman filed a police complaint against them due to alleged harassment.
Inspector Sarjerao Kumbhar of Kolsewadi police station said that the 27-year-old woman had filed the complaint on Saturday against her husband and two in-laws after they allegedly taunted and assaulted her for her cooking. Mid-Day reported that on Monday, while the woman was asleep, her in-laws had tried to kill her by slitting her throat.
Meanwhile, a police officer said that the woman is currently receiving medical attention in a hospital. The in-laws, however, along with their son have not yet been arrested but have been only charged.
Section 375 of the IPC states that the act of sex by a man with a woman if done against her will or without her consent, is a criminal act and therefore punishable by law. During this type of crime, if the accused injures the woman seriously and it results in death, the accused can face death penalty.
