The MTV Video Music Awards turns 30 this year, and to mark such a milestone it has been decided that there will be drastic changes. That is, to move, like many have done before, from Manhattan to Brooklyn.

The music network announced on Monday that they will be holding this year's Video Music Awards, which will take place on Aug. 25, in Brooklyn's brand new stadium, Barclays Center.

MTV explained in a quirky statement: "After hopping on a plane at Los Angeles International Airport Monday morning and winding his way through New York City, the iconic symbol of the MTV Video Music Awards has just touched down at his home for 2013: Brooklyn Barclays Center."

For the last four years the ceremony was held in L.A., after the last show in New York turned into a media frenzy when Kanye West jumped on stage during Taylor Swift's acceptance speech saying that Beyoncé should have won instead.

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz expressed his satisfaction for being chosen,.

"Brooklyn is a cultural mecca -- the hippest, coolest place for young people across the country, and has played a crucial role in the careers of some of 2013's biggest bands. It is only fitting that the first time Brooklyn will ever host a major awards show, it's the MTV Video Music Awards."

The Barclays Center opened to the public in Sept. 21, 2012 after eight years in the making, and it held its first event with a Jay-Z concert a week later.
